This article describes a feature available to Snowplow BDP customers on Private Managed Cloud (PMC).
In addition to Lifecycle Rules, Amazon provides an Intelligent-Tiering storage class for S3 that provides automatic cost savings by moving your information to the most appropriate access tier based on usage patterns. This can be advantageous for Snowplow customers on AWS who are looking to optimise their S3 storage costs.
What data can it apply to?
Intelligent-Tiering can apply to all event data stored in S3 including raw, good, bad, and archive data.
Can I set this up myself?
Yes. While we have an available configuration for this, like lifecycle rules, we recommend you implement Intelligent-Tiering independently of the managed infrastructure state so you can manage cost optimisation based on your specific needs.
